I guess it was inevitable. After the long hiatus of gigs and the slow, tentative return to regular events I caught covid-19 again. I started to feel ill on Tuesday evening and spent most of the last half of last week sleeping it off, and finally am starting to feel better. It’s still out there.
Frustratingly, it’s happened just as things were really picking up, and were starting to feel, well, normal again. I last caught covid over Christmas, which means this has been my second bout of it in less than six months. Last time, I ended up missing the Twisted Illusion gig at Whittles in Oldham. This time I ended up missing seeing two good friends get married. Hey ho. I’m not going to be responsible for other people getting sick if I can help it.
It’s been a slow start to the year for gigs. Twisted Illusion had played Grand Central in Manchester back in February (our first ‘home town’ gig in 2 years), before announcing plans to go on hiatus. Deltanaut played a couple of great shows in March, supporting Weedpecker on their UK tour. In May, Blackmore’s Blood made it back up to Scotland for a couple of ace gigs in Glasgow and Bathgate. Jodi & I got an extra day to go wandering around Loch Lomond and the surrounding area and go out for an anniversary meal. A great weekend, marred only by the sad news that Jimmy McGinley, had passed away. Jimmy was the original singer with Blackmore’s Blood and sang for our first 40 gigs.
As a fan, I got to see Noddy’s Puncture twice and we got to see Dream Theater on their recent UK tour.
There’s a busy few weeks coming up, but I’ll leave that for another post.
Look after yourselves.
